Studies and military training do not should be excluded – this is the main presumption of an agreement signed by the heads of the MON and the Ministry on volunteer military training of students and graduates within the Academic Legion. Already over 22,000 students became soldiers thanks to this program. The agreement will improve cooperation between ministries in the implementation of this programme.

– Academic Legion This is simply a task aimed at students who, on the 1 hand, want to deepen their knowledge, discipline and skills, survey and, on the another hand, want to service their country, want to be soldiers of the Polish Army as enlisted officers or officers," said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence, after signing an agreement with the Ministry of discipline and Higher Education.

Closer cooperation between resorts

The paper sets out the principles of cooperation between the 2 ministries in organising and conducting military training within the Academic Legion. It will enable the Ministry of Defence to effectively support theoretical training carried out at universities, to safe seats for candidates willing to undergo applicable training under the sub-office module, and to appoint patronageal military units.

As the head of the MON pointed out, already over 22,000 students became soldiers thanks to the LA program. – At 1 time they can combine science, education and profession with real service in the Polish Army. You do not request to interrupt your professional or educational path, this can be effectively combined – the Deputy Prime Minister encouraged.

Academic Legion is simply a volunteer training program for military students and graduates that combines explanation and practice. The theoretical part takes place at universities, and practical is implemented in military units and training centres. The theoretical classes include, among others, 15 hours of teaching materials prepared by the MON, which are intended to give students the basis of military training.

Kosinak-Kamysz explained that as part of LA, students undergo basic training lasting 28 days and later specialized sub-office training. “In 3 years at most, they have various courses, both theoretical and practical, in military units, which are dedicated to the training of subjects in higher education institutions,” said the head of the MON.

At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the armed forces lack, in particular, a sub-office corps and 1 of the objectives of training within the Academic Legion is to complete this gap. – The Academic Legion Programme works and brings results. This is proof that people who are aware and clearly defining their goals are coming to him, and it is besides an expression of the large assurance of these young people in the state and its institutions, as well as in their universities," said Marcin Kulasek, head of the Ministry of discipline and Higher Education. The Ministry of discipline provided universities with over PLN 5.5 million of peculiar intent grants for the implementation of the programme.

The agreement concluded is another step in the implementation of the provisions of the Law on Defence of the Homeland, which aims to strengthen the state's defence preparation strategy utilizing the possible of the academic community and to build a reserve strategy in the Polish army.

The agreement will apply at least until 30 September 2027, which is to supply a unchangeable legal and organisational framework for subsequent editions of the training. At the same time, the agreement replaces the earlier arrangements of January 12, 2023, ordering the cooperation of both departments.
