On Thursday, the European Court of Human Rights passed a judgement in favour of Lech Wałęsa, stating that there are many irregularities in the Polish judicial system. The Court ruled for the erstwhile president of the Republic of Poland compensation of EUR 30 000.

The case afraid Lech Wałęsa's complaint, which came to the Court of Strasbourg in October 2022. The complaint afraid the annulment of a final court judgement in favour of Wałęsa in a civilian case for violation of individual rights against Krzysztof Wyszkowski. He accused him of violating his individual property. The suit was a reaction of Wałęsa to Vyszkowski's public statements of November 2005, in which he suggested that Wałęsa was a secret associate of the PRL safety Service under the pseudonym “Bolek”.

In 2011, the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk obliged Wyszkowski to print an apology. Following Vyszkowski's complaint to the tribunal, the proceedings ended in 2021 erstwhile the Polish government made a unilateral declaration, admitting to violating the rights of the complainant.

Minister of Justice and lawyer General Zbigniew Ziobro lodged an extraordinary complaint with the ultimate Court's home of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs. The complaint afraid a final judgement in favour of Wałęsa. The Court concluded that Ziobro had “absorbed legal procedures” to accomplish its political objectives.

Poland was obliged to take appropriate legislative measures to guarantee that its national legal order complies with the requirements of the independent and impartial court established by the Act and the rule of legal certainty.
