A ruthless PKW decision

The State Election Commission rejected the Law and Justice accounts for 2023 on 18 November. PKW pointed out the usage of subsidies for purposes not compatible with statutory activities. This decision may consequence in the organization losing the right to grant for 3 years, which means a failure of over PLN 77 million.

Although PiS has challenged the decision of the State Election Commission to the ultimate Court, the organization may lose backing from the budget if it is maintained. In October, PKW's work was halted due to interior conflict concerning the designation of decisions of the ultimate Court's Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs Chamber.

Dead souls

PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński expresses concern about the problem of "dead souls", i.e. persons formally belonging to the party, but for years not paying contributions. Their appearance showed fresh interior elections in the party. The number of specified activists was estimated at around 20,000. In an interview with the HR, 1 interviewor notes that this is simply a very large scale, and the situation itself requires an audit.

Jarosław Kaczyński expressed strong discontent about this. In the face of financial difficulties, the president announced the reorganization of the organization and the introduction of strict rules. This means that the deficiency of contributions will be equal to the deficiency of the anticipation of moving and losing the rights of the associate States, including those on the electoral lists. This action aims to organise the structures and improve the financial situation of the party.

Law and Justice were planned to allocate PLN 35–40 million to the presidential campaign, but these were plans for full subsidy funding. This – as we know – will not be possible. This is simply a serious problem for the Law and Justice, especially in the context of the announcement of the presentation of the presidential candidate on 23 November. The presidential run is peculiarly demanding financially, as the funds spent on it are non-refundable, unlike the parliamentary elections.

Jarosław Kaczyński called for financial support for the party, stressing the importance of contributions in the face of current political challenges. He besides pointed out that measures for the Law and Justice and not for another initiatives specified as the Republic's tv are a precedence in this situation.
