Fr Waldemar Chrostowski: "A Covenant with God. Images of the Church in Scripture"
date:10 November 2023 Editor: Anna
Is this not a very accurate comment on our time: “All things are lawful, but not all things are beneficial. Everything is allowed, but not everything is built.” These words were written nearly 2 1000 years ago by St. Paul the Apostle – nothing has been lost to actuality. Neither is the full teaching of Christ, whose work is our Church.
About its foundations, and thus the foundations of our faith, he writes in the book "The Covenant with God. Paintings of the Church in the Holy Scriptures" outstanding and highly well-readed Catholic author Fr. This excellent Bible student and theologian refers to a centuries-old tradition; after all, traces of preparation for the establishment of the Church by Christ are found already in the Old Testament.

In order to realize correctly what the Church is, 1 must return to its authentic sources and origins," writes the Author. Only in this way will we not be trapped in the thicket of presumptions, hypotheses, opinions and views, which combine 1 thing, namely the relativization of the view of the Church and its place in the world. Reaching into past serves as much as possible the present – convinces to read this wise book.
Returning to the earliest sources does not make our religion archaic, on the contrary. It gives it strength of tradition and strength of experience. We are amazed to find that old wisdom is unprecedented in our 21st century! For example, the prophet Ezekiel said: “So says the Lord God, Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not shepherds fall sheep?’ Woe to specified shepherds everywhere, besides in Poland.
Applying the “all is slow” thesis cited at the beginning, so fashionable and publicized today, threatens with destructive infection, writes the Author. In a Christian’s life, only what serves to build and strengthen the community of Christ’s followers is acceptable and imitateable. But what weakens this structure and disfigures it should be branded as harmful and rejected.
The book “The Covenant with God” tells the reader the right course, indicates what strengthens us and what takes distant our power. In the constant media sound in which we live, these suggestions are highly valuable. Their pronunciation emphasizes and embellishs more than a 100 carefully selected illustrations
