What is the link between solar flares, the observatory in Sněžka and the soldiers of the 10th Wroclaw Communications Brigade? The answer to this question is utmost training prepared by soldiers, during which military technology collided with the forces of nature. Together with IMGW scientists, the Wrocław communications officers checked how harsh mountain climate and cosmic anomalies affect the stableness of the radio signal in the heart of the Krkonoše.
During the course of the class, the soldiers expanded their expertise in communication. During the teaching panels, IMGW scientists discussed solar flares and solar wind. This allowed us to realize how anomalies in space affect signal stableness and the propagation of radio waves.
“The Krkonoše highest is an perfect yet highly demanding laboratory. The constantly changing weather conditions and terrain let you to test equipment in practice in utmost situations that are not dealt with in barracks," explains the head of the class.
After the explanation came the time for practice. The soldiers merged with the parent military unit in Wrocław. The task of the radio operators was to keep unchangeable communication utilizing modern radio stations that were equipped with the Brigade. In the high-mountain area, soldiers had to fight strong suppression of signal, diffusion and alleged shadow zones.
"Working in this area required us to adapt continuously. We had to precisely choice frequency and antennas by responding to changing conditions. This was an excellent lesson showing that even the most modern digital equipment must be operated by well-trained and experienced soldiers," 1 associate emphasizes.
The training proved that the integration of cognition in the field of field science, meteorology and modern technology allows the soldier of the 10th Wrocław Communication Brigade to stay full prepared to operate in all conditions both on the ground and weather.
