The head of the MON Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed during the ceremony commemorating the victims of the Volyn massacre that the fact about genocide must be shown. The minister noted that the wound would not heal until it was cleared by admitting the crime. On Friday marks the 82nd anniversary of the culmination of the Volyn-Galician crime, erstwhile Ukrainian nationalists murdered tens of thousands of Poles.
«We have been waiting for this moment. The heirs, families, exterminators, all those who have never doubted and never lost hope that the fact - due to the fact that not for revenge - for truth, for its show, for memory worth fighting for" - said Kosiniak-Kamish during the celebration. The Minister stressed respect for the generations who have borne this fact for decades.
The head of the MON pointed out that he was not 1 of the people “who could be described as having any kind of disagreement between Poland and Ukraine”. Kosiniak-Kamish expressed his desire to build the future on the foundation of fact and respect the past.
Conditions for wound cleansing
«This wound will not heal until it is cleared» - said the Minister of National Defence. Purification means admitting that genocide has occurred, which in any respects already occurs.
Kosiniak-Kamish mentioned circumstantial conditions for clearing the historical wound. This means respecting the victims and their families, setting a cross on Ukrainian land, where Polish blood was shed. It besides includes exhumations and a worthy burial for victims of crime.
Commitment to generations
«This is our commitment to past generations - no 1 has released us from this work and we gotta keep this commitment» - stressed the head of the MON. The minister pointed to the continuity of work for the memory of the victims.
Friday marks the 82nd anniversary of the culmination of the 1840s Volyn-Galician crime. Ukrainian nationalists from the OUN-UPA then murdered tens of thousands of Poles in Volyn and east Galicia.
On July 11, 1943, UPA troops raided almost a 100 Polish towns in Volyn. This day was the apogee of the Volyn massacre and went to past as a bloody Sunday.
