Intervention of Honesty
In mid-August, Euro MP Michał Szczerba submitted a announcement to the prosecutor's office, suspected of having committed a crime. He joined papers obtained from signalers, which full confirmed the mechanics of financing the PiS organization run from the KGHM Foundation.
The materials provided allowed the investigation to begin and extend to another organizations that received donations from the KGHM Foundation. Szczerba defined the Foundation's grant strategy as a "organised pumping room".
High inefficiency
In connection with the notification of the territory Attorney's Office in Legnica, she launched an investigation into grants from KGHM, suspecting a large-scale economy that was intended to harm this foundation, as well as crimes related to the Electoral Code.
The information “Gazeta Wyborcza” shows that these funds, amounting to PLN 15.9 million, were allocated to the PiS election campaign. Investigators have evidence that the money went into the accounts of non-governmental organizations and 1 private company, and was then spent on the acquisition of materials promoting PiS candidates, specified as T-shirts, pens, leashes, cups and umbrellas, on which the names of the politicians of the organization or the PiS logo itself were displayed.
The largest grant, amounting to almost PLN 3.5 million, was awarded to the Generation Association for an obscure “educational and informational social campaign”, the effects of which are besides unknown. The second largest grant, amounting to PLN 893.6 thousand, was awarded to the Independent Media Foundation, connected with the environment of “Gazeta Polska”. The Foundation has received backing for "the information and education run on civilian rights and civilian awareness building on democracy". The AMF Foundation, on the another hand, was to print on the "social aspect of media content being sold in the context of the Smolensk tragedy" and to implement a task on misinformation.
Grants were to be granted between 16 February 2023 and 1 March 2024. A fine of up to PLN 100 1000 is foreseen for inefficiencies.
