RECLAMA

– This looks truly promising and circumstantial – so Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented on the results of the talks on post-war safety guarantees for Ukraine. The head of government indicated that Poland would not send its troops to Dniepr. – But we will be a leading country erstwhile it comes to logistics and organisational issues – he betrayed at a press conference. Mr Tusk stressed that 4 responsibilities of the warrant countries were defined. They concern the safety of Ukrainian maritime, air and land spaces. “We have established among the leaders that this information will stay undisclosed for the time being, but I can assure you that we have defined circumstantial areas of work for individual countries and clearly stressed willingness to engage with the United States”, said the head of the Polish government.

This will besides applies to "readyness to exert force on Russia", including through sanctions. “Ukraine is ready for peace talks, but Russia is not”, Tusk said about the reasons why it is essential to “press on Moscow”.
No binding paper on safety guarantees was signed in Paris, but Donald Tusk's words indicate that this may happen in January.

Anti-aircraft defence and interior dissappointment

The coalition summit was preceded by 2 crucial events. The first was to meet Volodymyr Zelenski with host Emmanuel Macron. The president of Ukraine wrote on social media that there was talk about, among others, the request to strengthen the anti-aircraft defence of his country. “Every shipment of rockets... saves lives and strengthens diplomacy. Therefore, each gathering should have a concrete consequence – fresh decisions on the Anti-aircraft defense, fresh aid packages, fresh opportunities to defend heaven”, he wrote. He added that “we were just discussing this at a gathering with president Emmanuel Macron – about the real possibilities of Ukraine to counter Russian panic and support that can strengthen our positions in diplomacy.”

Prior to the beginning of the meeting, European leaders besides issued a joint message on Greenland. The leaders of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, large Britain, Poland and Denmark made it clear that ‘Grenland belongs to its inhabitants’ and that only Denmark and Greenland have the right to decide on matters relating to this territory, rejecting external claims against the island. The message besides stresses that safety in the Arctic is simply a precedence and that the region must be protected in cooperation with NATO allies, while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all parties.

The message was a direct reaction to signals coming from the US – from Donald Trump and people from his surroundings. The president of the United States returned to Greenland's thought of "buying" Greenland by his country and suggested that control of the island was crucial to American security. This was read in the European capitals as a possible challenge to the existing position of the island, which is an autonomous territory forming part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

Poland involved, but besides cautious

So-called. Volunteer Coalition (Coalition of the Willing) became an informal consultation and coordination format in 2025, bringing together countries ready for the long-term support of Ukraine, including in areas beyond the minimum consensus reached in EU and NATO forums. This format does not have a permanent composition or organization structure, and its aim is to enable faster reconciliation of positions in political, military and safety matters in the context of prolonged war. any 20–35 countries participate in the talks, including France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and the Baltic and Nordic countries. Since the beginning of the coalition, there have been crucial differences between its members, both in the scale of military support and in the approach to the most delicate issues, specified as safety guarantees for Ukraine or the admissibility of third-country troops in its territory after the end of the armed action.

Poland, which is 1 of the most active countries supporting Ukraine, presents a cautious position on matters of direct military engagement. Warsaw consistently declares its readiness to further support in the political, logistical, training and military dimension, including through arms supplies. At the same time, the Polish authorities clearly stress that Poland does not supply for the sending of its troops to the territory of Ukraine, both as part of possible stabilization missions and future safety guarantees.
