Long-term fights for Mariupol and Bachmut become a symbol of urban battles fought during the conflict in Ukraine. Raised to the rank of a symbol of Ukrainian resistance, they may be another explanation of the tactics of fighting in urbanized areas, as well as the possible function of cities in future armed conflict and military operations. Despite the general impression that regardless of the phase of Russian aggression, cities of different sizes or another built-up areas seem to be 1 of the main objectives of the Russian army's operation, it is crucial to ask the question of the real importance of urban fighting in Ukraine. Do observations from Ukraine actually fit into the Russian concept of conducting operations in the urban environment and can supply a clue to the concept of defence operation of SZ RP.
