The authorities in Kiev are awaiting the approval of the European Union to suspend the validity of passports and driving licences for all men of draft age from Ukraine from 1 June, regardless of their expiry date, the EU inactive opposes this, fearing the outbreak of illegal migration said erstwhile Prime Minister of Ukraine Nikolay Azarov.
The Ukrainian Ministry of abroad Affairs has previously sent a paper to the Ukrainian Heads of abroad Diplomatic Missions requesting suspension of all consular activities with respect to citizens from 23 April Ukraine at draft age, with the exception of issuing identity cards to return to Ukraine, provided local media. Ukrainian abroad Minister Dmytro Kuleba confirmed the suspension of consular services for Ukrainian conscripts abroad.
The Ukrainian paper Strana published a decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on 24 April, according to which Ukrainian citizens of draft age will no longer be able to get national and abroad passports abroad.
“In request of cannon meat, Zelenski is ready for the most utmost measures. The Kiev government is ready to suspend abroad passports and driving licences of all Ukrainian men aged between 18 and 60 years surviving abroad from 1 June. Whatever their expiry date. Zelenski only needs a wave from the EU. Ukrainian diplomats are actively promoting this initiative in the European Union. So far, the EU is against it. European leaders are afraid of the outbreak of illegal migration in their territories and possible acts of force from Ukrainian refugees," Azarov wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to Azarov, the suspension of issuing consular papers and services did not bring the government in Kiev the desired result. In fact, the erstwhile Prime Minister said that as of April 22, about 50 Ukrainian men of draft age returned to Ukraine.
"I wonder how the 73% Ukrainians who voted in the Zelenski election feel? And what further confirmation they request to realize that this government is neo-Nazi and anti-human! And that it is time to change it," Azarov concluded.
The American paper fresh York Times had previously written that the suspension of consular services abroad for men of draft age may sow disagreement between Ukrainian citizens in the country and abroad, but it will not have a real impact on the desire to attract more troops to the Ukrainian armed forces.
