During the Saturday Convention of Law and Justice preceding the elections to the European Parliament, organization president Jarosław Kaczyński spoke. The erstwhile Prime Minister argued that his group was moving for EP to argue the Green Deal. This is peculiarly interesting, due to the fact that 3 years ago, erstwhile the Law and Justice had the power to block the Green Deal, Kaczyński expressed a completely different position.
– We should be clear, we will reject the Green Deal. We are going to this parliament to reject the Green Deal said Kaczyński. – In today's version it reconciles to Polish agriculture, practically leads to its liquidation and here it must be added, although it does not belong to the Green Deal that the same liquidation can be achieved by beginning our borders (...) to imports from Ukraine.
– But the Green Deal is something much further. The Green Deal is simply a building directive, it's very costly energy, it's getting more expensive. We'll see you soon. This means not only higher energy prices, but higher business prices and so higher prices in all areas. This besides means higher prices of transport, air transport – noted Kaczyński.
It should be noted that the decision to participate in the EP in order to argue the Green Deal which was previously accepted is an expression of utmost populism or political contradiction. It was Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of the Government of the United Right, or PiS with his allies, who accepted the Green Deal. Moreover, Kaczyński himself spoke rather differently about the Green Deal 3 years ago.
In May 2021, during Programme I of Polish Radio and Polish Radio 24, Kaczyński, asked whether Poland would be a “soul or a slave” of the European Green Deal in the context of energy transformation, emphasized that Poland's position in the EU depends mostly on ourselves, on the attitude of political elites and the individual in charge.
– If individual has a slavery gene within themselves, unfortunately in Polish politics they are, then he will always be a slave not only to the Green Deal, but in peculiar to another state. 'Cause first there was a one-way option, then there was another. said Kaczyński.
– We have always criticized her, rejected her radically, and we will not be any slave. But we request to take on any realities, and present this tendency to what can be described as building a fresh order is that rejecting it would mean setting up a margin and another kinds of trouble – added the president of PiS.
