The Prime Minister of large Britain unexpectedly visited Kiev on the day of Ukrainian independence. Boris Johnson met with the president of this country Volodymyr Zelenski. During the press conference following talks with the Ukrainian authorities, the head of the British government called on Western countries to intensify their assistance to Ukraine.
"We, as friends of Ukraine, must show that we have the same strategical strength as the citizens of Ukraine," said Johnson, urging Western leaders not to halt by the way of assistance to Kiev and impose fresh sanctions on Russia.
A Challenge for the West
British politician highlighted the challenge that the coming winter will be for Western countries. In his opinion, it will be harsh and Vladimir Putin will effort to manipulate the supply of energy resources.
– Our first test as friends of Ukraine will be opposition to this pressure. We gotta build our own reserves. I believe that if we last this winter, our position will be strengthened. With each next week and period Putin's position will weaken, his influence will decrease. That is why we request to increase our assistance to Ukraine," said Johnson.
In particular, according to the UK Prime Minister, this support should include the provision of a number of rocket launchers, including HIMARS. In addition, Johnson called for further financial and economical support from Ukraine. He announced that the UK would supply Ukraine with fresh aid of £54 million (more than $63 million).
