LIFE IN SAFE
In the Communist organization of Poland, the “activ” consisted mostly of people of judaic origin, who, for example, made up about 75 percent of members in alleged techniques (printers, couriers, etc.). The clear overactivity of judaic people in the communist movement, frequently exaggerated and integrated into various superstitions, was at the core of the reasonably common functioning of the judaic story as 1 of the most crucial “threats for Poland”. Stereotypes were importantly reinforced during the russian business in 1939–1941. Among Jews, Poles saw those who supported the Soviets and benefited from russian order, agitators and militias, traitors and collaborators.
When the communists started building a fresh strategy in 1944, the Ministry of Public safety (MBP) had to be under full control of trusted communists. The vast majority came from KPP, and many Jews were in charge of security. prof. Paweł Spiewak writes that they played the function of Janczars. They were isolated from the remainder of society, hated, and ethnically alienated, sentenced professionally and life-long to the camera where they worked.
Many of them grew into symbols of the Stalinist strategy of repression and crime. These include Mieczysław Mietkowski (Możesz Bobrowicki), Salomon Morel, Roman Romkowski (Natan Grynszpan-Kikiel) or Józef Różański (Goldberg) – a psychopathic torturer, an NKVD officer inactive in the russian occupation. The brain of many safety operations and an highly influential individual was Department manager V MBP Julia Brystiger. 1 of the most brutal murderers who pacified Bialystok peasants in the 1950s was Colonel Józef Czaplicki (Izidor Kurc), who, due to persecution of the soldiers of the Home Army, was baptized in safety by the very crucial nickname Akower. The communist movement was handled by the X MBP Department led by Anatol Fejgin. His deputy was later the celebrated escapeee to the West Col. Joseph Light (before the war the shoemaker and communist activist Isaac Fleischfarb).
In the Central Committee of the PPR/PRP, the key figure liable for the apparatus was Jakub Berman. Berman himself told Teresa of Toranska years later: “I realized ... that I should not, or could not, take the highest positions as a Jew.... The actual possession of power does not gotta go hand in hand with the vulnerability of its own individual [...]. I wanted to make my contribution, to make a mark on this complicated creature of power, but without exposing himself. This evidently required skill."
Berman has indeed marked his fresh system. He personally directed trials in which innocent people were murdered.
Jews besides appeared in advanced state positions, in economical apparatus, in the military. The paradox was that it happened after the execution of the judaic community in Poland. For the average citizen, Jews disappeared from the area, but they were massively present in the structures of fresh power, and, of course, in security. This again strengthened the stereotype of the judaic community, which sometimes took the form of “Jewish Security”. Jews became omnipresent and all-powerful, ruled Poland. In the 1940s on Warsaw Street, the answer was: “What is the most crucial organization in Poland?” and the answer was: “Bermanówna”. Reports of the Polish underground independency and articles of conspiracy press were little fun. They described a catastrophic image of Poland destroyed by communism and Soviets. 1 of the most crucial tools for implementing this criminal policy was to be “obsessed” by the “shrewd” “traitors”, “murderers”, “eternal enemies of Christianity” and “foreign agents” – Jews.
In the 1940s and 1950s, the judaic case in the management of UB was evidently a public taboo. The situation changed after 1956 erstwhile the party's secretary was again Władysław Gomulka. He ruled for the first time in 1944–1948 and was then alert to the fact that there were not besides many Jews in the governing structures of the party. He did not do this for anti-Semitic reasons. He simply wanted the PPR to receive the widest possible, authentic public support. He felt that this would not be facilitated by the number of posts cast by people considered by Poles as strangers.
When Gomulku's position in Moscow began to weaken clearly in 1948, he was convinced that Berman and his associates would not do any good to the system. In his letter to Stalin, he wrote: “On the basis of [...] observations I can say with full work that any judaic comrades do not feel connected with the Polish nation, and so besides with the Polish working class any threads, or positions that could be called national nihilism.”
Comrade Wiesław was removed from power and then imprisoned. For his destiny he mostly blamed the characters of the letter. erstwhile he returned to power in 1956, he dealt with Berman, Hilary Minc and another his earlier opponents. respective advanced officials of the judaic MDP of Romkowski, Fejgin and Rozański were besides imprisoned.
Together with Gomułka, leading activists of the communist military conspiracy from the time of the war, specified as Mieczysław Moczar and Stefan Kilanowicz, a.k.a. Grzegorz Korczyński, returned to advanced positions. Many of them had individual dealings with the erstwhile crew.
After the Arab-Israeli war, suppressed earlier in the Gomulka crew wanting to rematch for real and imaginary harm, as well as simple hatred of Jews, just exploded. The names of judaic communists were publically mentioned, who held advanced positions in the organization and safety apparatus from 1944 to 1954. During the 1968 anti-Jewish campaign, the story of "Jewish" was already part of the authoritative organization propaganda.
A solid discussion on facts became possible only in the 3rd Poland. The first more factual voice in the case was a lecture by prof. Andrzej Paczkowski in 1995 on the basis of the improvement of interior security. The prof. stated that there were 131 people in the office of safety for 447 people serving in the safety of Jews. So not 13 percent, as prof. Krystyna Kersten claimed, but about 30 percent. any confirmation of the data provided by Prof. Paczkowski was published a fewer years later by russian documents. In 1 of them liable for the pacification of Poland and the demolition of the underground independency of the NKVD advisor at MDP gen. Mikołaj Seliwanowski wrote in late 1945: “The Ministry of Public safety has 18.7% of Jews working in the Ministry of Public Security, 50% of management positions are occupied by Jews. 27% of Jews work in the 1st Department of this Ministry [...]. They shall hold all managerial positions. In the Personnel Department – 23% of Jews, in managerial positions – 7 people. In the Faculty of Officers (special inspection) – 33.3% of Jews, all hold liable positions. In the Sanitary Department of MBP 49.1% Jews, in the Financial Department 29.9% Jews".
Perhaps the most accurate data on the interesting subject was provided by Dr. Krzysztof Szwagrzyk in the "IPN Bulletin" in 2005. He established that out of 450 people holding advanced positions in the Ministry of Public safety from 1944 to 1954 (from above the warden) there were 167 judaic people, or 37%. Given that Jews were at most 1% of citizens in Poland at the time, the situation seems rather clear. Brother-in-law wrote: “In the light of the presented statistical data, the thesis with a large share of Jews and judaic people in the management of the UB was formulated on the basis of actual reasons and as specified reflects the historical fact.”
