During the central celebrations of the Police Festival in Józef Piłsudski Square in Warsaw, president Karol Nawrocki told the officers: "Today I am arrogant of you, that like me you love the freedom, independency and sovereignty of Poland and service it." These words form part of the consistent line of the head of state, which has stressed that the state has been behind border and order-keeping services since the beginning of his word of office. The president had previously adopted the same speech towards the Border Guard.
Police Day in Piłsudski Square
The ceremony took place on July 24, in connection with the 107th anniversary of the establishment of the State Police. At Piłsudski Square in Warsaw, the president gave the officers nominations and decorations, and in the speech he spoke about the request for a strong, well-equipped formation. The message was clear: the state authorities declare full support for those who are liable for citizens' safety on a regular basis.
"The Wall Behind the Uniform", besides towards the Border Guard
The same thought came 2 months earlier. On 16 May, during the central celebrations of the 35th anniversary of the Border defender in Lublin, Nawrocki spoke to borderers: "The nation is arrogant of you, I will always stand a wall behind the Border defender uniform". He called the formation "modern service of the 21st century" and 1 of the "founders of safety and independence". The Border defender was created on May 16, 1991, so the anniversary was of peculiar importance to the environment.
The border that calmed down
The words of pride fall erstwhile the force on the east border has become evident. From the beginning of the year to the end of May, about 215 attempts to illegally exceed were recorded on the Polish-Belarusian border, compared to more than 10 1000 in the same period a year earlier, which means a decrease of nearly 98 percent. By comparison, there were 19,685 in all 2025. There is inactive a buffer zone, introduced in June 2024, and temporary border checks with Germany and Lithuania were extended until 1 October.
A fragile calm
Improving statistic does not mean ending the threat. The force on the border is controlled and its strength depends on the decision of the Minsk government and Moscow behind it, for which foreigners stay a tool of force on Poland and the full European Union. Maintaining the buffer region and interior border control is simply a designation that calmness is fragile and requires constant vigilance of the services. For borderers who have faced an organized barrier force over the last years, the words of support besides have a applicable dimension: they mean political support in the dispute over the hardness of the border.
Sovereignty as the axis of presidency
The consistent appeal to freedom, independency and sovereignty is not accidental in Nawrocki. It is simply a message of a political direction in which the defence of the border and support of uniformed services become part of a wider communicative of a sovereign state. During the ongoing hybrid force from the east, the word about pride from police and borderers is more than a courtesy. This is the signal on which the head of state stands in dispute over the hardness of borders.
