In just 5 days of conflict between Thailand and Cambodia 41 people were killed and 300,000 people were displaced. Now the military commanders of both countries have agreed that the negotiated ceasefire will be maintained.

Both sides will besides not deploy at the border of additional troops. Cambodia besides demands the presence of global observers to monitor compliance with agreed ceasefire conditions.

The conflict between Cambodia and Thailand concerns a disputed section of the border in the Surin region of Thailand and Uddar Meanchey in Cambodia for over a century. The passage of border lines follows the agreement of Siam (Thailand) and colonial France concluded at the beginning of the twentieth century. Thailand is presently questioning these arrangements.
