– As regards the extension of protection for Ukrainian citizens, until the next session of the Sejm, that is, by 8 September, the government will prepare another bill to regulate all these issues. We are dealing with a possible chaos to which this veto can lead," said government spokesperson Adam Szpiek.
Government responds to Nawrock's veto on aid to Ukrainians
As he said, "The Council of Ministers is working on a solution that will regulate benefits for all foreigners in Poland, not just Ukrainians".
– It will cover all benefits, not only 800 plus. This solution will connect them to work or being in the ZUS system, which is straight related to work – the spokesperson explained.
As we have informed you, Nawrocki's decision to veto the amendment of the Law on Assistance to the Citizens of Ukraine caused a political storm. The task aimed at extending and clarifying many social and legal solutions for Ukrainian refugees. However, the president considered that its form requires major changes, and the current expression is besides burdensome for the Polish budget and society.
Nawrocki wants changes to the law on aid to Ukrainians
In particular, the Nawrocki Veto dealt with issues of social benefits, specified as 800 plus, which, according to his proposal, would benefit only those working and paying contributions in Poland.
In his statement, he stressed the request to adapt the aid to changing realities and to end the "age of unconditional generosity". At the same time, Nawrocki announced the submission of his own more restrictive bill to visitors from the East.
Among the proposed changes were the extension of the period of applying for citizenship, the tightening of penalties for illegal crossing the border, as well as provisions enabling the pursuit of "bander ideology".
Veto met with criticism from the opposition, as well as many NGOs and experts who inform against the deterioration of the situation of refugees and negative effects on Polish entrepreneurs.
