At the age of 84, Dr. Jerzy Smolinski died. 1 of the fewer who understood the importance of Polish-Russian relations in the future. Expert of Russia and the countries of the erstwhile russian Socialist Union. The ceremony was held in Warsaw on July 16.
Polish patriot, distinguished diplomat, realist, erstwhile minister of power at the Polish embassy in Moscow, b. chargé d’affaires of Poland in the USSR. He was the Consul General of Poland in Saint Petersburg. Multiannual president of the Polish-East Cooperation Association and the Polish-Russia Cooperation Association.
The first time I heard about Dr. Jerzy Smoliński was from the words of Deputy Prime Minister and Mining Minister Jan Mitrzyga. At that time I wrote to “The Homeland” and he advised me to contact Rudolf Maronia and Jerzy Smolinski. He then said that the 2 gentlemen who were mentioned boldly with their views and geopolitical orientation were included in the program line of the magazine. He besides gave me a book by Maronia “The boy of the King of the Unemployment.” I met Jerzy Smoliński a fewer good years after the death of Jan Mitrzyga.
I've met him about 10 times in my life. So truly little, but despite the rarity of meetings, he made a large impression on me. Most of the conversations we have in our lives after a short time are completely blurry. I remember these conversations. I'll compose 3 short.
The first was erstwhile Matthew Piskorski was in custody. Unlike many who were silent at the time, Mr. George simply called the prosecution's conduct scandalous. According to him, it was political revenge on Andrzej Lepper. He said that if you took the charges of influencing public opinion seriously, any politician or writer should be accused in Poland.
The second conversation I want to remind you here was about the text by Andrzej Werblan “Acts of stupidity, or stupidity. A book that president Duda surely did not read". He highly recommended it to me erstwhile he said that he could safely be written specifically for “Polish Thought”. He was right, of course. He wondered how to cross the way of realism and patriotism in Poland, due to the fact that in this he saw medicine for our social life. He said that “II of Poland lived myths, III of Poland lives myths about myths".
The 3rd conversation took place at a banquet in Warsaw. Mr. George wasn't in his best shape. He asked me if I heard the latest statements of the head of the Ministry of abroad Affairs Radosław Sikorski. I confirmed and expressed my critical opinion. After a while of silence, Mr Jerzy said: “The correct Polish-Russian relations are not needed by Russia. They are needed by Poland, so that bad things never happen to us again. They are essential for our economy to do intrusive business.” I concluded that the reason for this is surely the misunderstanding of Russia by the post-solidarity elites. George took my arm and said: “I think there is something much worse here. They realize Russia and unfortunately have a confrontational policy, which is highly unprofitable for Poland. Cost-effective for those who compose this scenario.”
