The Ministry stated in its communication that the ban was imposed "under retaliatory measures" against sanctions announced by Tokyo in connection with the Russian full-sized invasion of Ukraine, which has been in advancement since February 2022.
In addition to the head of the MFA, the list of persons banned from entry included, for example, the current and erstwhile nipponese ambassador to Ukraine.
The authorities in Moscow have already imposed unlimited entry bans on representatives of the nipponese authorities and companies.
