Janusz Korwin-Mikke surprises the political scene again. According to ‘Rzeczpospolita’, a well-known politician is the creator of a fresh organization named Confederation, in short KonFed. The data available in the online registry of political parties conducted by the territory Court in Warsaw show that the group already formally exists. Korwin-Mikke does not deny – on the contrary, it confirms that it is his initiative and argues that as 1 of the founding members of the Confederation he has the full right to usage this name.
The case sparked a stir due to the fact that there was already a group on the political phase called the Confederation of Freedom and Independence, bringing together environments specified as Nowa Nadzieja (previously: KORWIN) and the National Movement. And there is besides the Confederation of the Polish Crown led by Grzegorz Braun. In practice, Korwin-Mikke's fresh organization may be taken as an effort to take over or at least undermine the consistency of the current block with which Korwin formally divided up.
Just a year ago, in April 2024, Korwin-Mikke registered a fresh organization called the Confederation of Renewal of the Republic of Freedom and Independence, utilizing the abbreviation of the National Court. It was to be a continuation of his political heritage after leaving the function of leader in the main Confederation. A period later, however, it was reported that the organization could be removed from the registry due to the deficiency of a financial study for the year 2023.
Korwin-Mikke himself explained at the time that there was a procedural misunderstanding.
“The KORWIN party’s treasurer sent a study on time, only by e-mail, not recognized by the State Election Commission”, he said.
However, PKW did not recognise specified a form, and this opened the way for the removal of the group.
In this situation, the fresh initiative called the Confederate (ConFed) looks like a preemptive movement. Korwin-Mikke can thus effort to safe his presence on the political stage, and besides make life hard for competitive environments utilizing the same brand. All the more so, the abbreviation "Confederation" – which has been promoted for years – has a advanced designation value among voters. The question so arises whether Korwin-Mikke's fresh organization is simply a return to the game, or alternatively a political rumble to his old colleagues. Regardless of the motives, the fact – the Confederacy as the organization name again officially belongs to Janusz Korwin-Mikke. Whether he can gather the electorate around him again, or only deepen divisions among the right-wing electorate, he will prove to be in the coming months.
