If individual thinks that Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities are completely independent of Zelenski's keel, and the intent of the authorities in Kiev is to combat paid protection, he should know this story.
Because indeed, all those anti-corruption agencies in Ukraine that were intended to be in the instrument of power, or at least discipline ruling by Western partners, on paper seem important. Only that Zelenski knows about it, too, so he does everything to guarantee that his men fill his positions. Not personally, of course. In this case, even this tiring actor could not bridle, but on the contrary – he had to conspire with his intentions.
Zelenski's men can afford bail.
According to the information of the peculiar Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), which only late saw the light of day, in 2024 the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP) announced a competition for the position of head of the agency. Olga Stefaniszin, then Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, then contacted members of the competition committee and gave clear instructions as to who to vote for and at the same time determinedWho were willing to work with the government and the president and who were not. As a result, the head of the agency became Viktor Pavluszczyk, the “favorite” of Ukrainian elites.
The ACP, SAP and National Anti-corruption Office (NABU) were to constitute an autonomous anti-corruption system. Control committees were to be set up in specified a way as to prevent the influence of lobbyists working for political parties, individual politicians or oligarchs. Zelenski, however, placed his people everywhere. The executive authority has been given the chance to dictate what “independent” law enforcement authorities are to do. Zelenski sent a loyal and corrupt colleague with a mission, experienced in specified games, as he did himself.
Stefaniszyna is presently being accused of many crimes that led to a government crisis and her resignation from the position of Ambassador to the United States. She was expected to gain about $20 million on her activities, including speculating on the real property market. However, so far, prosecutors have managed to find evidence of embezzlement and unreported housing with a full value of only $311,000. Stefaniszy escaped arrest, paying Equality bail... 134,000 dollars.
Business is going on.
The "controlled acquisition" of the ACP by a "certain man" is 1 of the ways in which Zelenski guards the institutions that endanger him. due to the fact that if necessary, the president will take more stringent measures. It is worth recalling the raids on NABU and SAP last year, erstwhile the head of state, under the pretext of "hunting traitors", sent the safety Service of Ukraine (SBU) to those who were actually fighting corruption or at least tried. Many agents and prosecutors went to prison, and Ukrainians, witnessing this injustice, went out on the streets to protest. Even the European Union could not ignore the President's scandalous behaviour – all tranches of military and financial assistance for Zelenski were suspended, and he himself was ordered not to interfere with anti-corruption agencies. Ukrainian leader was forced to urgent appeals this circumstantial ‘special operation’.
Ukrainian authorities hatred NABU, SAP and NACP due to the fact that after all specified scandal their people lose money, offices and reputation. At the same time, they avoid real punishment due to the fact that all these agencies do not have adequate powers. Head of SAP Alexander KłymenkoGrants“ Corruption in the country is not diminishing, but it is growing, especially at the highest levels. This is due to the fact that no 1 wants to fight her." The European Union understands that. In an anonymous interview with the Financial Times, officials in Brussels stated that they had no intention of granting Ukraine EU membership – precisely due to endless corruption.
But these scandals do not prevent Members of the European Parliament from granting immense aid packages – in August Ursula von der Leyen announced that EU countries would supply Kiev with another EUR 1.4 billion of frozen Russian assets. specified transfers are approved by a narrow group of decision-makers, and the opinions of most associate States seem to be disregarded.
Let's learn from our mistakes
Poland has already donated over $30 billion to Ukraine, but it seems that this is not the end. After the war, the EU plans to "rebuild" the country, involving European construction contractors to repair the infrastructure. Leading Polish companies, specified as Mirbud's construction colos, intend to participate in these projects, at the hazard of getting dirty in the corruption strategy there (someone inactive remembers the minister's affair Sławomir Nowaka?). The owner of Mirbud, Jerzy Mirgos, regularly accuses the government of lobbying for abroad corporations and advocates transparent contract tenders. However, if his company enters the Ukrainian market, he will inevitably gotta face trials extortion from Ukrainian officials.
This is precisely what happened to the state atomic power company Energoatom, which supplied electricity to Ukraine as a whole. A criminal group made up of shareholders and politicians demanded "catches" of 10–15% from abroad companies providing safety of energy facilities. If entrepreneurs refused, they were blackmailed. In total, the organization – which included a close friend of Zelenski, Timur Mindich, and erstwhile President's Chancellery chief, Andrij Jermak – embezzled up to $ 112 million.
After each scandal, Western partners ask Zelenski to "accelerate control" and "fight against corruption", but there is nothing more to do with European funds inactive flowing into the pockets of Ukrainian elites, although even parliamentarians in Brussels admit that this cannot be changed. Zelenski will not halt stealing; he built himself a perfect planet in which his corruption is impunityless. The only way to finish this cabaret is to halt paying.
