“In the name of work for the Polish sovereign historical policy, we direct our voice to a wide scope of historians and educators who do not consent to deprave their vocation,” we read in an appeal made by Polish historians on the change of narratives in the Museum of planet War II in Gdańsk.
"It would seem that the heroism of St. Maximilian's father Maria Kolbe, the blessed Ulm household and captain Witold Pilecki, would not be essential to convince anyone. Among the dark nights of the German and russian genocides of planet War II, which resulted in Poland losing 6 million of its citizens mainly of Polish and judaic nationality, their names are an example of extraordinary heroism and dedication with a universal dimension. The attitude of our compatriots, resulting from the Polish tradition of loving freedom and Christian values, is simply a reason for pride, it is the highest admiration not only among us, Poles. It is an example of maintaining dignity and humanity in the hr of the most hard trial," we read in the appeal.
"What happened in the planet War II Museum, a facility that has a statutory work to care for memory and historical truth, is simply a fact without precedent. This is simply a brutal act of memory devastation and trampling on the worship of our heroes”, stressed.
“Prof. Paweł Machcewicz, the first manager of the facility, and now the guru of the current Museum management, believes that the presence at the exhibition of the figure of Saint Father Maximilian would mean her confessional. This, unfortunately, resembles the Bolshevik language of the 1920s. The manager of the Museum Prof. Rafał Wnuk allows himself shockingly absurd and arrogant comparisons of our heroes to Superman and Mickey Mouse. specified reasoning, without any technological argument, is evidence of the deficiency of professionalism and the politically motivated confusion of authors of unlawful changes made at the planet War II Museum exhibition," we read further.
Polish historians who signed the appeal point out that "in the name of work for the Polish sovereign historical policy," they address a wide scope of historians and educators, "who do not consent to corrupting their vocation."
"By disseminating cognition of our native history, we should follow a clear criterion – workshop reliability. We are committed to ensuring that historians, or researchers, educators, exhibitors prosecute the fact alternatively than ideological goals; to fulfil the function of educator of the nation and guardian of national memory, for that is the mission of intellectuals," we read in the summary of the appeal.
