According to ARD tv reports, German WKB companies Systems GmbH and Knauf are to be active in the process of rebuilding Mariupola, which was destroyed by the actions of the Russians.

According to a journalistic investigation conducted by the station, after the launch of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the city of Mariupol, which erstwhile had almost half a million inhabitants, was completely destroyed. A year after the outbreak of the conflict, only 150 000 people had already lived in a city that had been destroyed. Knauf is expected to employment as many as 4,000 employees in Russia and make "billion-dollar turnover" on the marketplace there.

However, in consequence to ARD's inquiries, Knauf expressed its condemnation of the war effort in Ukraine and the Russian invasion. At the same time, the company has ensured that it respects the sanctions imposed by the European Union and that the articles it produces in Russia are intended exclusively for the marketplace there.
