On Tuesday, the Lviv Circuit Council established the year 2027 in Lviv with Roman Szuchewycz, the commander of the Ukrainian Insurgency Army (UPA) since 1943, the Institute of National Memory stressed that this decision was a "cius aimed at memory of victims made under his order of genocide".

The Institute of National Memory in the entry on the X portal called Shuchewycz a “architect” of the crime and stressed that he had written a black card of history. He recalled that he was a co-founder of the units (Nachtigall Battalion) operating alongside the Germans and so belonged to those liable for the crimes carried out “on Poles, Jews, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Russians and representatives of another nationalities in Belarus, Volyn and east Małopolska”.

In the opinion of the IPN, the decision of the Lviv Circuit Council "contributes to the long-term process of building the authoritative cult of Shuchewycz and another supporters of Ukrainian extremist nationalism". The IPN recalled the words of the order given by Shuchewyz to his subordinate commanders: “Cut out into the trunk. Pure Polish villages smoke, mixed villages – only Polish people destroy".

The Institute of National Memory described the commander of UPA as "one of the liable for genocide made by Ukrainian nationalists, but besides the author of a lie built present denying crimes committed between 1943 and 1945". He besides pointed out that Szuchewycz was "a co-author of a panic strategy aimed at destabilising east Małopolska and Volyn" and "consciously and deliberately built a lie denying the scale of genocide committed by his own subordinates and goals guiding Ukrainian nationalists".

The IPN besides pointed out that Szuchewycz had already implemented the "criminal thought of building a unified ethnically united Ukraine" since the late 1920s. He initiated the cooperation of Ukrainian nationalists with Germany, which continued until the end of planet War II.

In 1941, he became Deputy Commander of the German Nachtigall Battalion (reformed in the Schutzmannschafts Battalion 201) pacifying villages in Belarus. From 1943 he headed UPA, becoming, according to the IPN, “the architect of genocide in Volyn”. erstwhile he realized that crimes compromise Ukrainian nationalism, “he consciously and deliberately built a lie denying the scale of genocide.”

As the Institute of National Memory recalled, the number of Poles murdered in Volyn is estimated at 60 thousand. “Moreover, since the turn of 1943/1944, with any modifications, the “Volyński scenario” has been applied in east Małopolska”, the IPN states.
