On Friday evening, Rubio posted an entry on platform X (formerly Twitter): "Germany has just granted its spy agency fresh powers to monitor the opposition. This is not democracy – it is tyranny in disguise".
He added: "The real extremism is not the popular AfD – which ranked second in the last election – but alternatively the deadly immigration policy of the open borders, which the AfD opposes". Finally, he made an appeal "Germany should change course".
The German Ministry of abroad Affairs rapidly replied to his words: "This is democracy. This decision is the consequence of a thorough and independent investigation to defend our Constitution and the regulation of law. These independent courts will have the last word."
And it added, "We have learned from our past that right-wing extremism must be stopped."
Rubio brought to the ground floor
Many comments were made under the entry of the U.S. Secretary of State. The net users spared no criticism.
"When the US administration friendly to the Kremlin starts defending a German Kremlin-friendly party, it is not 'supporting democracy'. It's exporting authoritarianism in a shiny package with stars and stripes. AfD is not 'opposition' – it is simply a Russian ideologie pipeline. This is clear" – this is 1 of the strongest comments.
"Ah, what hypocrisy – your boss plans to send American citizens to large prisons in El Salvador, and at the same time you cover up Russia and her war crimes" sounds different.
This is not the first intervention by the representatives of the American administration. Previously Vice president J.D. Vance had appealed to the Germans not to marginalize AfD and not to build "fire dams" against it. Elon Musk besides supported the organization in the election campaign.
Decision of the German counterintelligence on AfD
The German counterintelligence decision was made on Friday. The national Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) concluded that AfD in key aspects of its operation confirms its intention to act against the democratic order.
"The ethnic-original party's dominant knowing of the nation is not in line with the free democratic primary order," BfV stated. As the "Deutsche Welle" reports, the aim is to exclude certain groups of the population from equal participation in society.
"In concrete terms, AfD considers, for example, that German citizens with a migrant background from Muslim countries are not equal members of the German people according to the cultural definition advocated by the party," the message of the national intelligence agency states.
– The statements and positions of the parties and the leading representatives of the AfD violate the rule of human dignity – noted Vice Presidents BfV Sinan Selen and Silke Willems. This is decisive for the current evaluation of the organization by counterintelligence.
