The European Bank for Reconstruction and improvement (EBRD) for the second time since the beginning of the year has lowered Moldova's growth forecast for 1 year2025— this time to 1.8%. This is the consequence of an updated study by EBRD Regional economical Prospects published on 14 May. Earlier in February, the bank reviewed its expectations of Moldova's GDP growth from 3.5% to 2%.
For 2026, the EBRD maintained an earlier forecast of 3.8% growth in the Moldovan economy.
"In the early 2025s production and export in the country remained weak, which further complicated the disruption of gas supply from Russian Gazprom to the Transnistria region and the interruption of electricity supply from the Moldovan CHP plant in the area, which forced costly imports of energy from Romania," says the report.
In April, the global Monetary Fund besides importantly reduced Moldova's growth forecast for 2025 — from 3.7% to 0.6%, and the planet Bank — from 3.9% to 0.9%. At the same time, the Moldovan Ministry of economical improvement and Digitisation remains optimistic and assumes a GDP increase of 2% in 2025, with further acceleration to 2.4% in 2026.
