DELHI- India’s largest LCC, IndiGo Airlines (6E), has announced the addition of 10 new international destinations, including London (LHR) and Athens (ATH), as part of its 2025 global expansion strategy. The carrier aims to grow its international reach from 40 to 50 destinations this financial year.
Flights will launch from key Indian hubs like Mumbai (BOM), with new direct connections to cities such as Amsterdam (AMS), Manchester (MAN), and Siem Reap (REP), strengthening IndiGo’s position in long-haul and underserved international markets.

IndiGo New International Destinations
IndiGo’s aggressive expansion reflects rising demand for global air travel from India, combined with improved airport infrastructure across the country.
CEO Pieter Elbers emphasized that India’s aviation ecosystem is evolving quickly, and IndiGo intends to scale with it. The airline’s upgraded international roadmap will cover Europe, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia, adding both business and leisure travel hotspots.
Among the key additions are routes to:
- Amsterdam (AMS) and Manchester (MAN) – marking a significant leap into long-haul operations using leased Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
- Copenhagen (CPH) and Athens (ATH) – tapping into rising Indian tourism interest in Northern and Southern Europe.
- Siem Reap (REP) – facilitating cultural tourism to Cambodia.
- Four cities in Central Asia – part of IndiGo’s growing regional strategy (specific cities to be confirmed).
The Mumbai to Manchester flight is particularly notable, as it positions IndiGo in the long-haul market, traditionally dominated by full-service carriers. These new services are expected to launch starting in July 2025.

Strong Network
IndiGo’s vast domestic network gives it a solid foundation for funneling international traffic. With over 90 domestic destinations and more than 2,300 daily flights, the airline connects nearly 90% of India’s population to the global grid.
Its current fleet of 430+ aircraft, and growing, supports this scale. As part of its FY25 plans, IndiGo intends to add over 100 new routes, spanning 40 international and 20 Indian cities, reinforcing its reputation as India’s largest airline by market share.
The airline’s $10 billion annual revenue and consistent profitability provide the financial stability needed for sustained expansion. Additionally, IndiGo’s inclusive workforce—featuring India’s highest number of female pilots—underscores its modern corporate culture.
Elbers addressed potential regulatory hurdles, including those related to bilateral agreements with Turkey. He stated that IndiGo will continue to operate within established aviation frameworks and adapt to evolving diplomatic and legal parameters.
IndiGo is closely monitoring the regulatory environment across its new target regions to ensure compliance and strategic alignment with foreign aviation authorities.
