"You will shortly be a justice of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

– I am very happy; it has always been my dream, but it has not seemed real to me for a long time.

– So far, the judges from Poland were Jerzy Makarczyk, Lech Garlicki and Krzysztof Wojtyczek. Finally, the justice will be a woman.

– I think this is an crucial change – a female from Poland will take this position. My career way is alternatively unusual. For 11 years I was a justice in Poland, and for almost six years I worked in Kosovo, where I thought in war crimes cases, dealing with the most drastic violations of human rights. I later participated in the improvement of the judiciary in Ukraine. The accumulated experience gave me the competence and courage to compete in the jury competition at the Human Rights Court.

Why did you become a lawyer?

– I don't have any household legal traditions, so it wasn't a natural road. The request to fight for justice has been with me since advanced school. However, I treated hard law studies mainly as a challenge to prove to myself that I was able to get to them and complete them.
