On 21-23 November, the global technological Conference “Poles in Ukraine: History, Present, Future” was held in the building of the Ignacy Krasicki Industrial Public Library. The event was brought together by a number of experts, researchers and practitioners curious in the situation of Poles in Ukraine, among them many representatives of the survey of east Europe, headed by manager Jan Malicki.
As part of the meeting, many interesting discussion panels were held, i.e. Modern challenges for the Polish number in Ukraine – perspectives for the implementation of Polish abroad policy, State and needs of the improvement of the Polish number in Ukraine, Polish and Polish Culture in the 19th Century, Modern socio-linguistic situation of Poles in Ukraine, Forgotten and unforgettable Poles.
Participants besides had the chance to get acquainted with the rich publishing work of SEW UW, which includes specified fresh monographs as – Poles in Ukraine, Poles in Belarus, Poles in Lithuania and the Baltic countries. An integral part of the conference was the exhibition by Prof. Stanisław Stępnia entitled Insurgents in January in Przemyśl, organized by the host – an industrial library.
The conference was an crucial forum for the exchange of cognition and experience, with conclusions which may be of crucial importance for Polish abroad policy and support of Polish number in Ukraine. The event was organized by the Warsaw University of east Europe with the support of the Department of Cooperation with Polonia and Poles behind the border of the Polish Ministry of abroad Affairs (DIP SEW), a photograph of the Polish Culture and European dialog Centre in Ivano-Frankivsk.
