Departing from national policy

Szymon Holovnia plans to retreat from Polish politics. shortly he will gotta step down as talker of the Sejm, and his chances of being president are minimal. As Onet stated, Poland's leader 2050 has been seeking the position of UN Commissioner in Geneva for respective months. In order to get the nomination, the support of the Polish authorities, including the president, is needed, which explains his efforts to keep good relations with Karol Nawrocki and Jarosław Kaczyński since the presidential election.

On Monday, Holovnia posted a social media entry in which he shared information about his further plans.

The day before yesterday I informed our National Council that I had submitted an application in a public call announced by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for the function of UN advanced Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Hołównia stressed that Poland had never had specified a position in the structures of the UN before. He pointed out that the subject of humanitarian aid is better known than politics, as it has been dealt with twice as long, moving its foundations worldwide.

Low chances

On Saturday, Holovnia informed the National Council of his organization that he would not run for president of Poland 2050 in January elections. He felt it was time to pass on leadership and end the party's founding stage, beginning the way for fresh leaders, visions and forces, despite the fact that for 5 years the division and fall of the group had been anticipated. At the same time, the politician pointed out that his chances of taking up this position were low.

To be honest, the chances for present are not great, the UN is simply a complicated, unpredictable world. But a week ago, erstwhile we started this trial, they weren't there at all. And to me – I will admit – after all the cesspool I've been through, the thought gives me the joy that I could find myself again where I can focus on the language that I know from my “previous” life, and that all man understands, regardless of views, confessions, language or colour of skin: bread language, dressing, hugging, hope. The leader of Poland 2050 expressed his gratitude to president Karol Nawrock, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister and abroad Minister Radosław Sikorski for his strong support and for their intense commitment in fresh days, the usage of individual contacts and the mobilisation of the full diplomatic machine.

Official handover of the baton

Already a fewer days ago, Szymon Hołownia announced that he would not run for president of Poland 2050 again in January 2026. He stressed that it was time to give leadership to fresh people who would bring fresh eyes and energy, pointing out that as the founder of the organization he was focusing on listening to his successor alternatively than deputy.
