The Agricultural and Food Products Trade Quality Inspection (IJHARS) imposed a punishment of PLN 1.5 million on the importer who introduced method rape and feed wheat from Ukraine as consumer products to the Polish marketplace – the Chief Inspector of Inspection Przemysław Rzodkiewicz informed about this incidental during a press conference.
According to the information, the services questioned 3882 tonnes of rapeseed and 7670 tonnes of wheat. In the case of rape, the importer was to counterfeit the usage from method to consumer and origin from Ukraine to Poland. For wheat, it was besides about changing the destination from fodder to consumption and falsifying the country of origin.

Rzodkiewicz besides stated that last year IJHARS carried out about 82 000 checks on foodstuffs originating in countries outside the European Union, of which about 1.4% showed irregularities. In addition, he revealed that the company punished by inspection came from Lublin Voivodeship, and the imported goods sold to six contractors as consumer products.
"Considers from Pomeranian and Lublin Voivodeships were deceived" - said Provincial Inspector IJHARS Agnieszka Jarosińska. She assured that the contested products were no longer on the market, stressing that "they did not pose a threat to human wellness and life".

Representatives of the Inspection besides pointed out that in fresh months, in the context of violations of trade in agri-food products from Ukraine, six penalties were imposed on unfair entrepreneurs. As reported, infringements included not only counterfeiting of the country of origin and changing the destination of cereals (from feed to consumption), but besides obstructing control and placing on the marketplace of poultrymeat. The penalties for these offences scope from PLN 16.4 1000 (for barley counterfeiting) to PLN 571,000.
Rzodkiewicz besides revealed that an anti-food fraud group was set up in IJHARS, involving experts from all over Poland. He explained that these frauds include various practices specified as the addition of inappropriate substances to food, imitation of known brands to mislead consumers, abuse of labelling – e.g. the usage of the word ‘honey’ for a product containing glucose-fructose syrup, and false information on composition, expiration date or origin.
Stefan Krajewski, who was present at the conference as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, stated that in fresh months all audit institutions have been prepared to “make certain that the consumer is satisfied that the products purchased by him meet the applicable quality standards”.
