On Monday (4.08.2025) the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, Vasil Bodnar, referred to the words of the Polish Crown Confederation associate Roman Fritz, who correctly described the slogan “The fame of Ukraine!” as “Nazi” and “Banderowski”. Bodnar responded, in a Ukrainian diplomat's characteristic way – with a shoe and a lie.
– Under the slogan ‘The fame of Ukraine!’, Ukrainian soldiers decision to fight for their land against Russian aggressor, defending the independency of the state and the safety of Europe, including Poland – Bodnar wrote, stating that this call has a profound symbolic meaning for the Ukrainian people.
In his statement, the ambassador stressed that this cry is an expression of national unity, courage and pride. "It is simply a common way of expressing support for Ukrainian sovereignty worldwide. present this slogan has become a symbol of integrity towards Russian aggression and unites people who support Ukraine," he added.
What's more, Bodnar compared the meaning of the slogan “The fame of Ukraine!” to the Polish word “Long live Poland!” suggesting that any effort to discredit him should be perceived as an attack on Ukrainian national identity.
The cry of Poles murderers
The ambassador's message omits the historical fact, which, in a clear way, places the Ukrainian cry in a series of slogans unacceptable in the Polish public space.
The slogan “The fame of Ukraine!” in the form “The fame of the country – Heroiam fame!” was the authoritative greeting of the OUN-B faction (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists – Bandera faction), co-responsible for genocide on the Polish population in Volyn and east Małopolska in 1939–1947. The slogan was as though reactivated and popularized during protests in Kiev Majdan in 2014, and in 2018 officially adopted by Ukrainian military and police. frequently this cry was the last heard by tens of thousands of Poles murdered by their Ukrainian neighbours during and after planet War II. Kulisy of Ukrainian genocide in Poles clearly and emphatically presents the book by Jacek Międlar with interviews with Ukrainian Witnesses of genocide in Poles ‘Neighbours’ and the documentary series under the same title (two episodes of 4 have already been screened, the first 1 is awarded in global movie festivals – the episodes are posted under the article; the website devoted to the series – FilmSasieds.pl)
Fritz's reaction
Mr Roman Fritz responded to the fact that Mrs Claudia Jahira had concluded her speech in the Sejm with the words "The Glory of Ukraine!" He described this as “honorable”, comparing to the cry “Sieg Heil!”. His message was met with harsh, irrational criticism of pro-government environments, but also, fortunately, with expressions of support from patriotic public opinion, for which recalling OUN-UPA-related slogans in the Polish parliament is unacceptable.
– Never before in the Polish Sejm have there been words that glorify the organization liable for killing more than 100 1000 Poles. It's like someone's paying homage to the SS. – Fritz commented.
Need for an open debate
The situation shows how much education of Polish and abroad society is needed in the subject of Ukrainian genocide in Poles from 1939 to 1947.
Ambassador Bodnar, as a typical of a Ukrainian state built on human harm, one more time proves that despite the support given to his country in an era of intense conflict with the Russian Federation, Poles cannot number on gratitude and abandonment of flagism by their east neighbours. An open comparison of the Ukrainian call to Polish “May Poland live!” is nothing more than an effort to erase historical facts that clearly indicate that Ukraine is simply a country that is profoundly steeped in criminal ideology and forgeries and historical history.
