Grzegorz Braun: affirmative pluses, negative pluses

Grzegorz Braun is presently 1 of the most recognizable politicians in our country. To say she's a controversial person, it's like not saying anything.

It was mainly on scandalous statements and the shocking part of public opinion happenings that Grzegorz Braun created his image and built his political position. As a result, antisytemic and politically incorrect statements and actions – Braun became the enemy of the number 1 political elite ruling our country. At the same time, however, doubts about Braun's real intentions are besides raised by anti-maistream environments, including circles referring to the tradition of the national camp. In this regard, accusations of cyclicalism, cynicism and instrumental treatment of voters appear. The question can so be raised whether Grzegorz Braun is simply a real contester of political order formed in the 3rd Republic, or whether he is simply a cabotin and a political scandalist.

Grzegorz Braun started his political activity in 1987 in Orange alternate – an opposition organization with a happening character active in the years of late PRL. During this time Braun besides worked in Polish-Czech-Slovak Solidarity, led by erstwhile activists of the National Council. After the systemic transformation, Grzegorz Braun became active with conservative-liberal (Real Policy Union) and monarchist (Organization of Polish Monarchists). Prior to the 2010 presidential election, he was on the committee of support of Jarosław Kaczyński. In 2015, Braun ran for the first time in the presidential election gaining 0.83% support. In June 2019 he registered his group – the Confederation of the Polish Crown, which was part of the Confederation of Freedom and Independence. From this list, he obtained a mandate of two-step members – 2019 and 2023. In the presidential election of 2025, Braun received support of 6.34% (1.242.9117 votes). In the ideological sphere, Grzegorz Braun declares himself a Catholic traditionalist, monarchist and advocate of the free market.

According to a survey conducted in mid-December this year by the National investigation Group of the Confederation of the Polish Crown, she obtained support in the order of 11.18, becoming the 3rd political force in our country. If we consider the above survey to be credible, this may indicate a crucial radicalisation and polarisation of social sentiments. The increase in support for Braun's organization is besides a reflection of the decline in the popularity of the Confederation of Bosaka and Mentzen, which has gradually plunged into stagnation and inertia since the presidential election. At the same time, the results of the survey caused political mainstream concern. This is illustrated by the words of Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski: “The Civic Platform and the Law and Justice have solidarity roots. And now we decision to fascist, anti-Semitic and undemocratic Poland. Of course, I hope that voters who now believe that they should vote for Braun will not actually do so at the urn. This is going in a direction that completely does not fit Poland, due to the fact that we are traditionally a tolerant and democratic country, not fascist" [1].

Regardless of the enmity of the elite, distrust of Braun and his group is paradoxically besides manifested by representatives of anti-system environments, including many sympathizers and readers of “Polish Thoughts”. They most frequently point out to Braun the contradiction of the views presently being voiced with erstwhile statements and opinions. The fact is that for a long time, Grzegorz Braun has been on the side of the “anti-communist right”, close to Law and Justice. This happened even after the Smolensk disaster. The leader of the Crown then argued that the catastrophe was the consequence of the assassination, which was the guiding subject of the “Smolensk sect” headed by Antoni Macierewicz. It is besides impossible to hide that Grzegorz Braun has repeatedly criticised Russia (Poland as a German-Russian condominium), which is contrary to its current narrative. The leader of the Crown besides accepted the simplified, not to say a primitive communicative concerning the assessment of the Polish People's Republic, replicating the "anti-communist" stereotypes and resentiments proclaimed by the "solidarity" environments.

This is illustrated by Braun’s 2013 statement: “In Nuremberg, German national-socialist criminals went to a stewardate or prison for planning an assault war. Although they were frequently good gentlemen, who, perhaps, in life, never had a fly fly over their wings. And Jaruzelski has been active since he became Minister of National Defence of the Polish People's Republic, in planning the assault war. He belonged to the strictest groups that plan the 3rd planet War, then these plans update and guarantee that they are implemented, that the armies of the Warsaw Pact are prepared for this war." "At the time russian troops entered Poland, Jaruzelski is already a talented associate of russian intelligence, who helps to pacify Poland" [2].

Interestingly, Grzegorz Braun does not have much opposition to participation in the broadcasts conducted by the daughter of “general-criminal” – Monika Jaruzelska, and even late offered to run in elections to the legislature with the support of his group.

Despite the above mentioned facts, many people consider Grzegorz Braun to be a kind of provident husband and “the last lifeguard for Poland”. I realize that. It must be objectively stated that Grzegorz Braun, as the only meaningful and widely recognized politician in our country, stands unequivocally and consistently against the effort to drag Poland into the war in Ukraine. Unfortunately, Confederate leaders Sławomir Mentzen and Krzysztof Bosak do so in a much more nuanced way, and frequently they simply like to hide their head in the sand. It is so hard to see them as leaders of the anti-war environment. However, from the very beginning of the conflict, Grzegorz Braun powerfully opposed Poland's transfer of military equipment to the Ukrainian side, as well as the costs to Ukrainian “refugees”.

It is not surprising, therefore, that many feel that, in an emergency of war, all another matters should be left on the agenda. We are dealing with a state of higher necessity. However, for akin reasons in 1981, despite many objections to the PPR, martial law had to be supported. Of course, I am aware that for some, even so crucial arguments are insufficient. For example, I heard statements that Grzegorz Braun had nothing to do with the tradition of the national camp. At this point, I would like to remind you that many patriots who have served Poland well besides had small to do with tradition and the thought of ending up with specified a name as Zygmunt Berling, Władysław Gomulka, or Andrzej Lepper.

So it is hard to anticipate the fresh Dmowski to appear, as the Jews look forward to the coming of the Messiah. Political choices must be made here and now, with common sense and political realism. Is Braun's support now the best choice for Poland? I think that this is something that everyone should consider in his own conscience, based on an impartial analysis of the current political situation.
