The MEP of the Confederation, Grzegorz Braun, announced his participation in the upcoming presidential elections. The decision has caused surprise, especially as the Confederate organization already officially supports Sławomir Mentzen as its candidate. Braun, the leader of the Confederation of the Polish Crown, emphasises that his candidacy aims to strengthen the representation of Polish Catholics in politics.
Political plans by Grzegorz Braun
Grzegorz Braun officially confirmed his start in a conversation with youtuber David Mysior. He stressed that the decision was connected with the mission of representing Catholic values in Poland. The MEP stated:
I'm gonna run for this election, with God and human help. (...) This will enable us to increase the chances (...) that the next parliament will include the representation of Polish Catholics.
Braun is already an experienced politician. In 2015, he applied for the office of president and obtained over 120 1000 votes, which translated into little than 1 percent of support. His current plans point to the desire to appear among the more diverse electorate, although for this moment, Sławomir Mentzen remains the authoritative candidate of the Confederation.
Wide List of Candidates
In addition to Grzegorz Braun and Sławomir Mentzen, politicians from another parties will besides run for president of Poland. Among them were:
- Karol Nawrocki, citizen candidate supported by the Law and Justice,
- Rafał Trzaskowski, representing the civilian Coalition,
- Simon Holovnia of the 3rd Way,
- Magdalena Biejat, candidate of the Left,
- Marek Jakubiak of Kukiz’15,
- Adrian Zandberg of the organization Together.
Divisions in the Confederation
Grzegorz Braun's decision to launch the presidential election can be read as an expression of tension within the Confederate. The party's authoritative support for Sławomir Mentzen suggested unification around 1 candidacy. Meanwhile, the Braun movement may be an effort to build a separate political identity and mobilise more conservative voters.
It is worth adding that the Confederation of the Polish Crown, led by Braun, is 1 of the smaller factions within the full Confederation. Braun himself is known for his expressive statements and controversial views, which frequently inspire utmost emotions.

Braun's presidential run may be a test of his individual popularity among Confederate voters.
