The Greek Parliament adopted a bill on Tuesday evening speeding up the deportation of people who were denied asylum. The rules will besides let their transfer to repatriation centres outside the European Union after bilateral agreements have been reached with 3rd countries.
Last week, the EU authorities agreed on fresh rules allowing countries to send migrants who were ordered to leave the Union to centres in 3rd countries. They would service as transit points before returning the requested individual to the country of origin or another 3rd country. This decision was met with harsh criticism from human rights organisations informing that it could encourage abuse," said Reuters Agency.
Prior to the Tuesday vote, the Greek Minister for Migration Atanasios Plewris said that EU countries are talking to 3rd countries, seeking to conclude the first agreements for the launch of the centres next year.
“The Greek government has already consulted 2 African countries,” said Plewris on Wednesday of the ANA agency. He didn't uncover the names of these countries.
