The Commission questioned most of the signatures

Gibala himself reported on 31 August that a crucial part of the entries would be rejected for formal reasons. He explained that the printed card lacked the word “Kraków”. If the supporter failed to add a city name at the address, the signature did not pass the verification. The candidate emphasized that it was not about falsifying the letter or about people outside the Krakow electoral register.
Other accounts besides indicate incorrect PESEL numbers, deficiencies in residence data and repeated entries. The Commission is to issue a temporary refusal to registry and let the Committee to supplement the documents. The deadline for submitting candidates is 3 September at 16 p.m. Each fresh list will besides pass full formal control.
Form mistake hates committee responsibility
Gibala criticises the rules as over-formal and indicates that the PESEL number allows to verify the voters. That argument deserves a post-election conversation. Nor should we underestimate the voice of the people who actually supported the candidacy. Rejecting a signature due to the missing city name may look like a triumph of a form over the real will of the voters. The solution, however, is not the discretion of the committee, but the fast completion of the letter, and then a reasonable change of procedures. Election law must be clear and resistant to freedom.
