"Donald Tusk couldn't aid but pin his political opponent, the PiS party, and president Andrzej Duda," writes the German diary "Sueddeutsche Zeitung" (SZ), commenting on the ongoing debate in Poland on irregularities in election committees after the second circular of presidential elections.
According to Viktoria Grossmann, the recalculation of the votes in respective committees showed that in any cases the results were mistaken – in the majority in favour of the ruling candidate KO Rafał Trzaskowski, who somewhat lost to the PiS candidate Karol Nawrocki. "Therefore, the consequence of the election is not yet known, stated the Polish Prime Minister, fueling the suspicion that there may have been fraud. And that he can't lose," the German writer says.
Tusk comes out of line.
He recalls that on Tuesday 1 July "the ultimate Court's Chamber, which the EU Court of Justice considered illegal, will take a decision on the validity of the elections (this 1 fell on the evening of 1 July, the election was considered valid – ed.)". "The erstwhile PiS government created and politically cast the Control Chamber (extraordinary – ed.). And we have a political conspiracy ready, don't we? another members of the ruling parties rapidly sought to make a different impression than Tusk – who is known for being out in front of the ranks himself. As they explained, mistakes most likely did not change the result of the election. Meanwhile, Tusk himself admitted it," Grossmann writes.
Rebuild Trust
It involves mixing with the "complex" political situation in Poland. "The government seeks to prosecute a legitimate policy, under the supervision of the judiciary, which is partially not in line with EU law. This government can do small to change this, due to the fact that it is blocked by the current and besides future president. There is no reason to be happy," the author admits.
However, as he emphasizes, 1 can "at least effort to preserve pragmatism and objectivity, not further fuel distrust towards authorities and institutions". "PiS governments are liable for this failure of trust. Tusk and his partners were chosen to rebuild this trust. They have until the next election in the fall of 2027," concluded Viktoria Grossmann.
