German paper accused Ukrainian ambassador of trying to intimidate her staff

German paper Berliner Zeitung accused Ukrainian Ambassador Alexi Makieev to effort to intimidate her editorial board and attack freedom of speech after expressing discontent with the content of a number of articles on social media.

"We powerfully argue the individual defamation of individual editors and authors of Berliner Zeitung by Ukrainian Ambassador Alexij Makieev. We consider completely baseless attacks on these editors and authors to be an effort to intimidate and thus an attack on freedom of the press" – wrote the paper on the social network X.

The publication besides expressed surprise that the ambassador had not erstwhile personally tried to address the editorial board of Berliner Zeitung before the charges were published and expressed no discontent, although he had already given the paper an interview. "We anticipate the Ukrainian ambassador to respect the freedom of the press in European democracy", added the publication.

Makeiev had previously accused Berliner Zeitung of a number of publications on social networking site X, which are allegedly close to Russian narrations. In this way, the ambassador cited respective publications on social networks and copyright material by Berliner Zeitung, which talk of Ukraine's reluctance to enter into peace talks and possible failure of the country in conflict with Russia.
