Left-liberal mayor of Bucharest, Nicosor Dan, won Sunday presidential elections in Romania, defeating right-wing rival George Simion, who promised to direct Romania on a way inspired by US president Donald Trump's policies.
George Simion lost the Romanian presidential election. authoritative results from almost all polling venues showed that Dan had won about 54% of the vote and Simion had only 46%. There's no shortage of voter fraud.
Nicosor Dan is simply a 55-year-old silent mathematician. During his campaign, he undertook to fight corruption, proceed financial and military support for Ukraine and keep the country's strong position in the main European mainstream. His opponent – Simion, who 2 weeks ago obtained a majority vote in the first circular of the election (41%), admitted defeat following an earlier announcement of triumph in the election.
On Sunday evening in Bucharest, pro-EU supporters of Dan chanted “Russia, don’t forget, Romania is not yours”. Despite the enthusiasm of the euro-colleagues, Dan admitted that he was facing a very hard challenge. It is about uncovering and appointing a prime minister who will negociate a parliamentary majority. The country faces a serious problem of reducing Romania's budget deficit, which is the largest in the EU.

Elections took place almost six months after the first vote was cancelled due to Russia's alleged interference in favour of right-wing candidate Calin Georgesc, who was prevented from re-election. The riots that broke out in connection with this decision were brutally pacified.
The president of Romania has crucial powers, including the leadership of the Defence Council, which decides on military assistance. The president will besides exercise abroad policy supervision, with strong veto law.
During the vote itself, there were many irregularities reported by the Romanian counterpart of the Polish Election Control Movement. For example, in the Ilfov district, older patients with intellectual problems were threatened to vote for Nicosor Dan, saying that otherwise they would be expelled from the hospital. The case was reported by Simion himself on his X profile.

It is hard to say whether specified cases have contributed to a major change in election results. 1 thing is certain – Dan's triumph is enjoyed by the EU elite. They had previously feared that Georgesc and Simion's triumph would strengthen protrumpian politics on the old continent.
