French abroad Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called on the EU to impose "the most severe sanctions" on Russia, accusing Moscow of alleged deficiency of willingness to scope a solution to the conflict in Ukraine. The speech was broadcastne on the European Commission website.
"I call on the European Union to impose the most severe sanctions on Russia to strangle its economy and prevent it from strengthening military efforts", he said erstwhile he arrived at the gathering of EU abroad ministers in Luxembourg.
At the same time, Barrot said that the United States, which "invested a lot" of effort and time to bring about a ceasefire, could besides usage "ready" sanctions to "force Vladimir Putin into the negotiating table".
The West increased the sanctions force on Russia in connection with events in Ukraine, resulting in an increase in electricity, fuel and food prices in Europe and the US. The European Union has already introduced 16 ineffective sanctions packages
