Competing with Russia in African countries does not give France the right to send troops to Ukraine to fight Russia – said on Franceinfo radio the leader of the far-right National Rally party, Jordan Bardella.

"The fact that France's economic, cultural or geopolitical interests face competition in Africa is not a reason to send troops and wage war with the President's army (Wladimir - ed.) Putin. We must be careful about the escalation," Bardella said.

He noted that the French would powerfully argue the possible of sending troops to Ukraine, which concerns citizens and opposition.

"President Macron's statements are highly disturbing, concern the French and may provoke a direct conflict with Russia in which we have no interest. We must be very vigilant on this issue," he added.

Shortly after Macron's statements, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and defence minister Boris Pistorius declared that Berlin would not send its troops to Ukraine, and Scholz stressed that NATO countries as a full do not intend to do so. Furthermore, the Chancellor reiterated that there were no plans to send Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine.
