SEOUL— A mid-air dispute involving four passengers prompted Hong Kong Airlines (HX) to notify Korean law enforcement upon arrival at Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN). The altercation took place on flight HX628 from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Seoul, leading to written warnings for those involved.

The incident occurred on Friday, with the aircraft departing HKG at 9:09 am and landing in ICN at 1:03 pm local time. Cabin crew intervened promptly, separating two pairs of passengers after an argument escalated into physical contact. No injuries were reported, and the passengers were handed over to Korean authorities.

Hong Kong Airlines Passengers Brawl

According to Hong Kong Airlines, the conflict began when a Mandarin-speaking woman accused another passenger of hitting her son after the child made contact with him while heading to the toilet.

In a video circulating online, the woman can be heard repeatedly shouting, “he hit my son,” while physically grabbing the accused passenger.

A Cantonese-speaking woman in the other group responded, claiming the child had struck someone first.

The argument, which included shouting and expletives, quickly drew the attention of multiple flight attendants. They repeatedly urged both sides to “calm down” while attempting to keep them apart.

The situation de-escalated only after all four individuals stood up and were physically separated. The video later shows the Mandarin-speaking woman explaining to crew members that she intended to apologise, but claimed the other passenger’s child retaliated with a punch.

Airline’s Response

A Hong Kong Airlines spokesperson stated that the crew followed company procedures, intervened promptly, and issued written warnings to the passengers involved. The individuals were later dealt with by local law enforcement upon the aircraft’s arrival in Seoul.

The airline confirmed no injuries were sustained. It also reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and safety on board, noting that disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated and will result in reports to the relevant authorities.

This altercation follows a separate case in July involving HK Express (UO). On July 15, police boarded flight UO597 from Phu Quoc, Vietnam, to Hong Kong after an argument erupted over a child kicking the seat in front.

The dispute between a Portuguese woman and a mainland Chinese man travelling with his three-year-old nephew was also recorded and widely shared on Chinese social media.
