The supply of Russian gas by Ukraine to Slovakia is seriously threatened by the situation in the Sujan Oblast in the Kursk Oblast, according to erstwhile Slovak Minister of Economy Karel Hirman.
"Russian gas supply is decreasing importantly today. My informing is confirmed that the Russian gas supply by Ukraine towards Slovakia is seriously threatened," Hirman wrote on his Facebook page.
He noted that according to the Ukrainian gas transmission strategy operator, the transit of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine fell to 37.25 million m3 per day on 8 August, while in erstwhile months it amounted to about 42 million m3 per day.
"Depletion of supplies occurs at a time erstwhile dense fighting between the Ukrainian and Russian armies is taking place close the Russian city of Suja. There is besides a transit pipeline close this border town, which transports Siberian gas towards Ukraine and to which Europe is besides strategically located an crucial gas measurement and transmission station," Hirman wrote.
He recalled that in 2022, as a consequence of the fights, the pipeline and border station Sochranówka was shut down and since then the only active point is Suja.
Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia Walerij Gierasimov said that on 6 August at 5.30 p.m. counting to a 1000 men of the Armed Forces unit Ukraine began an offensive to occupy territory in the Sudanese circuit around the Kursian circuit. He noted that their entry into Russia had been stopped. besides on Tuesday, the border town of Suja was subjected to multiple mass fire from Ukraine. On Wednesday, the mayor called the situation in the city "very tense".
The supply way through the Suja gas metering station is presently the only transit way of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe. Gas prices in Europe faced with concerns about Russian gas transit reached for the first time on Wednesday since December $435 for a 1000 cubic meters.
In May 2022 Ukraine halted gas transit through GIS Sochranovka, citing the fact that it was under the control of Russian forces (in the area of the ŁRL). As a result, there is only 1 entry for gas transit to Europe – Sudzha GIS. Gazprom stated that it was technologically impossible to transfer all volumes to Suja.
At the same time, the transit agreement between Gazprom and Ukraine assumes that the guaranteed regular volume of pumping (on both sides) from 2021 will be 109.6 million m3.
