The National Prosecutor's Office informed that on 21 August 2024 an indictment against Adam G. and 5 another persons was sent to the territory Court in Wodzisław Śląski. The case concerns serious allegations of corruption and illegal financing of the defendant's election run and his wife.
According to the National Prosecutor's Office, the defendants were subject to proceedings conducted by the Silesian External Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption. According to the authoritative communication:
"On 21 August 2024, the Prosecutor of the Silesian Department of abroad Affairs of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice directed the indictment against Adam G. and 5 another persons, accusing them of committing crimes under Article 228 §1 kk, Article 229 §1 kk, Article 271 §1 and 3 kk, Article 273 kk and others.“, as stated in the Communication from the National Prosecutor’s Office.
Details of the charges against Adam G.
According to the prosecution's findings, Adam G., who served as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy in 2019, was to receive a property benefit of PLN 171,674 from an entrepreneur from Katowice – Marek K. This money, according to the prosecution, was donated through Jerzy U., an entrepreneur operating in the marketing and advertising industry.
This appropriation was allegedly intended entirely to finance the election run of Adam G. and his wife, who in 2019 applied for seats in the Sejm and the Senate. The Prosecutor's Office argues that these actions violated the electoral code's rules on the financing of electoral campaigns.
Charges against co-defendants
The another 5 people who were accused of assisting in the handing out and of Adam G. In addition, they have allegations of issuing fictitious VAT invoices which served as a formal title to transfer funds.
Adam G's consequence to the charges
Adam G. did not admit to his alleged actions. Prosecutor Przemysław Nowak of the National Prosecutor's Office reported that both Adam G. and the another defendants provided extended explanations on the matter.
Preventive measures
At the request of the prosecutor, the Katowice-East territory Court in Katowice applied a precautionary measurement in the form of a temporary arrest. The prosecution's announcement reads:
"At the request of the prosecutor, the Katowice-East territory Court in Katowice applied a precautionary measurement in the form of a temporary arrest. This measurement is inactive applicable. The another defendants respond from a free foot. The D.A. applied property guarantees and police supervision to them.”
