Move to the designated areas of Latvia, show your readiness to fight, and after the war, halt your opponent and launch a counterattack – these are the tasks set before the participants of the "Resolute Warrior '25". Nearly 2.5 1000 soldiers from 14 countries took part in the exercises. Among them were Poles from the 17th PKW Latvia change.
The maneuvers began at the end of October, but were long run at staff level. They entered the primary phase on November 2. Soldiers – both Latvians and representatives of 14 another countries – besides left the bases all day serving in the NATO Multinational Brigade. The first task was to dissipate and rapidly shift forces into specified regions of the country. any of the subdivisions moved to the east – primarily to Latgalia, which borders Russia and Belarus, as well as neighboring Selonia. For example, motorized troops and a chemical company operating under the Alliance flag, consisting of specialists from the 17th change of the Polish contingent, arrived there. The primary part of the force remained in the area of Riga. Tanks – including Polish, Canadian and Spanish Leopardy and Italian Ariete – were deployed to the largest Latvian camp of Adazi.
"According to the script at this stage, we were inactive faced with a gradually increasing crisis. So we focused on demonstrating the readiness to take up the fight and, consequently, deterring the opponent, explains Colonel Szymon Grmerek, commander of the 17th shift PKW Latvia. At the same time, soldiers conducted actions among civilians (so-called CIMIC). They tried to calm the residents, while preparing them for different, even worse scenarios. In this context, it was besides crucial to establish cooperation with representatives of local authorities or various types of social organisations. – On this occasion we actually had quite a few meetings in schools, presentations of equipment. We worked with Latvian territorial defence soldiers. The aim was to build a affirmative military image and more broadly – NATO. To remind you that we are here, and if we do, we will support Latvians in defending their territory," noted the Polish officer.
At the same time, participants of the exercises faced increasingly serious hybrid threats, specified as diversion attacks. yet the opponent took the hazard – Latvia was attacked. In the following installments of the “Resolute Warrior”, the Latvian army tried to brake his march with the aid of allies. And erstwhile it did, a multi-national NATO Brigade militant group entered the action. Polish ones, among others, moved to fight Leopardy 2PL. – During the counterattack we conducted shooting with the usage of combat ammunition – explains Colonel Grmerek. But his opponent did not let go. Tank crews and combat infantry cars all along had to number for activity drones. “The shield against them was partially provided by Spanish subdivisions, which were equipped with systems that disrupt the work of unmanned workers. We were besides supported by soldiers of parts specialised in radio-electronic combat – the commander of the Polish contingent states. Eventually, the enemy managed to push back east. Exercise ended on November 12.
The "Resolute Warrior" is the largest test of the Latvian army in fresh years, but besides of the NATO Multinational Brigade under Canadian command. “The broad presence of our soldiers in the civilian environment and close cooperation with the Latvian armed forces strengthen our readiness. This cooperation unites us all. It symbolizes our contribution to the collective defence," said Colonel Kristopher Reeves, commander of the Natov Brigade. The maneuvers were besides the largest training task of the 17th change of the Polish contingent. “I think the test went very well,” says Colonel Grmerek and adds that before the mission of his subordinates there are inactive 1 more, only smaller, exercises.
Over 200 Polish soldiers are stationed in Latvia. respective Leopard 2PL tanks are available. The main force of the 17th change is the military from the 34th Armored Cavalry Brigade. Their mission ends in December. They will be followed by further sub-units from Poland.
The Canadians, as well as subdivisions from Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Albania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Montenegro and North Macedonia, service the Polish people.
