Colours of disagreement

At the end of last year, between Christmas and fresh Year's Eve, a government bill concerning, among others, the marking of Polish military units was submitted to the Sejm. 1 of the themes discussed in it is the selection of colours for the fresh F-35 fighters, which are shortly to power the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. The paper states that to better mask military aircraft, a fresh kind of marking should be utilized to make it hard to detect them.

Here we should mention the 2 most crucial changes. The first is to reconstruct the Navy's spokesman, as the order of Ignace Muscicki issued before the war states. The second change in turn will introduce a “low visibility chessboard” on flying machines.

It is worth noting at this point that the mentioned chessboard has always been white and red, while after the introduction of fresh regulations it will be possible to usage grey colors.

Heraldists and their doubts

However, the task did not gain the support of experts. Heraldics point out that the fresh pattern is partially inconsistent with the rules, as is the now utilized white-red chessboard in the Air Force. As they point out, this mark was introduced in 1918 by the order of the Chief of General Staff and has since undergone respective modifications. The last 1 occurred in 1993, erstwhile the chessboard was turned 90 degrees, adapting it to the principles of heraldics.

As we can read in the "Rzeczpospolita", according to the rules of symbol placement, emblems on banners, banners and banners are always directed towards the tree, or towards symbolic attack. Therefore, on the Polish war band the eagle always turns to the tree. For years experts have suggested that on the right side of the ballast usage a mirrored reflection of the board.

This issue was addressed by the Heraldic Commission, the highest authority in Poland liable for the supervision of heraldic principles. The Commission sent a letter to MON in this regard, but the Ministry has not replied to these comments.
