According to a study prepared for the European Commission by erstwhile Italian Prime Minister and erstwhile ECB head Mario Draghi, the EU has squandered economical benefits due to the rejection of energy from Russia, failure of interest from the US and competition from China.
"Europe has abruptly lost its most crucial energy supplier, Russia... Europe has mostly missed the digital revolution and the increase in productivity it has brought," the rapporteur stressed.
