Donald Trump has an extraordinary ability to appear in different ways. It is hard to grasp who truly hides behind the masks he assumes — and the destiny of full countries depends on what he truly thinks. It is nowhere more visible than in the case of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The last U.S. President's message regarding the war in Ukraine was enigmatic as ever. September 23 on fact Social Trump — who previously called the war in Ukraine ‘Zelenski War’ — stated that Kiev “is able to fight and win all Ukraine in its first form.” He even suggested that Ukrainians could go beyond the 1991 "Good luck to all," he added.
It didn't make much sense. However, this message was welcomed by those who hoped Trump would change his head and support Ukraine. They received these words as a sign of the frustration of the president of the United States towards Vladimir Putin and a sign that possibly his relationship with the Russian dictator had come to an end.
But more attentive observers uncertainty this interpretation. They see the another bottom.
For example, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that “for this amazing optimism lies the announcement of a smaller US commitment and the shift of work for ending the war to Europe. Better fact than illusions.” “Better fact Than Illusions, ” he wrote on X.
Given the frequent changes in Trump's position on Ukraine in fresh months, it is unreasonable to believe that his last message is simply a fresh starting point. It is already apparent that the United States has no real desire to engage more in the war in Ukraine.
The best thing to hope for is that Washington will proceed to supply intelligence and military assistance to Ukraine (if Europeans are willing to cover costs). It is Europe that must take action now — to keep Ukraine on the front, providing for its arms supply. Europe must besides endure the consequences of the prolonged war on the continent. And these consequences will be tragic..
High price
Ukraine suffered the top losses in the war. but terrible human sacrifices, counted in hundreds of thousands killed and millions of people permanently displaced, the country was devastated economically. There's no request to think about fast recovery. As the war continues, costs will increase, leading the country to the brink of insolvency, and possibly even to a complete collapse.

Russia was besides affected by the war. Suffering for high inflation, crowd interest rates, rising budget deficits, labour shortages and unsustainable military spending Russia's economy is slow moving towards disaster. Perspectives worsen with all period of fighting. If Russia loses the war, it will likely plunge into chaos and fragmentation. If he wins, the authoritarian and destroyed will gotta bear the barrage political and economical costs of rebuilding Ukraine.
Europeans are in a better position — but they besides pay the price of an economical war over 3 years with Russia. It is reflected in higher energy costs, losses caused by the collapse of trade with this country and the burden of defence expenditure. If we consider the hard choices that Europeans will gotta make in order to reduce their dependence on China, there is simply a image of economical stagnation, rising unemployment and lowering the standard of living. All this will fuel Right-wing populism in European politics, giving birth to the real danger of authoritarian expression.
End of European domination
It is becoming increasingly clear that the main losers of this war will be Ukraine and Russia, but besides Europe. Here you can see a similarity to the self-destruction of the Old Continent from 1914 to 18 and 1939 to 45. These wars ravaged the continent, ending the era of its domination.
Western Europe was economically rebuilt under the care of the United States and ended the Cold War as a winner. In fresh years, however, its comparative economical power has decreased importantly by expanding the importance of the global South. The last thing Europe needed was another long-term war.
In the coming years Europe, Ukraine and Russia will weaken and lose their global importance. The rules of the game will be set by another countries — mainly China and the United States. And future historians dealing with this war will be disbelievingly asking how Europeans could do this: not once, not twice, but 3 times in a row.
