Estonia withdraws from the Ottawa Convention

The Ottawa Convention, which has been in force since 1999, prohibits the use, manufacture, retention and transfer of anti-personnel mines and imposes an work to destruct them. Estonia joined it in 2004. However, due to the changing safety situation in the region, and in peculiar Russia's aggression towards Ukraine, the parliament felt that the continued application of the treaty limits the defence capabilities of the country.
