The wellness hotel announced plans to amend the government on the transmission of pregnancy information to the register. Currently, medical personnel are obliged to study these data. After the planned changes, information on pregnancy will be transmitted to the Medical Information strategy (SIM) only at the express request of the patient.

According to the Ministry of Health's communication, the amendment of the regulation is to be ready in August and the fresh government will enter into force in September. The wellness ministry assessed that there is no formal work under EU regulation to transmit pregnancy information to SIM.

Existing provisions

The Ministry of wellness stressed that this work derives from a national regulation introduced by the Law and Justice Government. The implementation date for the associate States of the Patient Summary exchange service, which includes information on pregnancy, is 2028. The current government requires medical personnel to enter pregnancy data in the medical event register.

The Ministry of wellness has previously reported that it does not plan to retreat from this obligation. "We are presently not carrying out legislative work to amend the provisions of the Regulation", the Ministry of wellness communication office said. The hotel explained that this information is essential to adapt the treatment to the condition of the patient, for example erstwhile she is unconscious.

Controversy and Concern

The regulation, which introduced the work to study on pregnancy data, was signed by wellness Minister Adam Niedzielski and entered into force in June 2022. In October of the same year, entering data from the extended catalogue, including pregnancy, became compulsory.

These provisions raised concerns among women that data on pregnancy failure could be utilized in court proceedings. Critics of this solution have identified the collection of pregnancy data in the ICT strategy as a "pregnancy register".

However, the wellness hotel announced that the amendment of the government to come into force in September would remove the work to study on pregnancy data, leaving the decision to enter them only to patients. This is simply a step towards greater protection of women's privacy and autonomy in managing medical information on pregnancy.

Summary

The planned changes to the government on the provision of information on pregnancy are a consequence to many controversy and public concerns. The amendment aims to supply greater privacy and control of patients over their medical data. These changes are expected to enter into force in September, which should remove the work to study on pregnancy data without explicit request from the patient.
