DUBAI- Emirates Airlines (EK) has come a long way since its humble beginnings in March 1985. From a tiny Fleet consisting of 2 Boeing 727s, 1 Boeing 737-300, and 1 Airbus A300, Emirates has grown to become 1 of the world’s largest and most prestigious airlines.

With a focus on innovation and excellence, Emirates has continued to grow its fleet to include any of the most advanced aircraft in the industry.

Humble Start and fast Growth

Emirates inaugurated its main flights in October 1985 by operating 2 wet-leased aircraft.

Pakistan global Airlines (PIA) left 2 Emirates plans—a Boeing 737 and an Airbus 300 B4. The inaugural flights departed for Karachi (KHI), Pakistan, and Mumbai (BOM), India.

In July 1987, 2 years later, Emirates acquired its inaugural owned aircraft—the A6-EKA, an Airbus A310-304. The A6-EKA aircraft of Emirates made its main flight from Toulouse (TLS) to Dubai (DXB).

Within a decade of its establishment, Emirates began introducing widebody aircraft specified as the Airbus A330 and A340 into its Fleet.

Today, Emirates operates a modern and simplified Fleet consisting of just 2 aircraft types:

144 Boeing 777 household aircraft including (777-200, 300, 300ER and 777F)
116 Airbus A380-800

As of April 2024, Emirates holds the title of the largest operator of the Airbus A380 in the world.

Oldest Aircraft in the Emirates Fleet

The oldest aircraft presently in the Emirates Fleet is the A6-EBK, and 17-year-old Boeing 777-31H(ER) which was registered in January 2006. This aircraft is based at Dubai Airport and regularly operates flights to destinations specified as Hyderabad, Nairobi, and Karachi, reported FlightRadar24.

Following closely behind is Emirates’ oldest Airbus A380, A6-EDF, which was registered just 1 period after the Boeing 777.

Emirates’ Newest Aircraft

The next addition to the Emirates Fleet is the A6-EFT, a Boeing 777-200 freighter aircraft registered in April 2022 and operated by Emirates SkyCargo.
